Rainy Day Monday: Classic Film Photo Images Quiz, Oct. 2018 Edition, Vol. 23
Welcome again guys and chicklets to yet another in the long suffering series known as The Classic Film Images Photo Quiz, brought to you, as always, by those wonderful folks who manufacture. distribute and consume SKITTLES, the all-weather breakfast candy. And speaking of the weather, the current season of extra heavy precipitation grants an yet another cheap opportunity to exploit the current headlines by presenting a new and exciting edition of our game. In this edition, we return to that most obscuring of visual elements (no, not the alarming volume of gauze wrapped around the camera lens to make Elizabeth Taylor look anything other than a bloated drunkard): rain. (You would
have thought the mention of precipitation would have been a dead giveaway, but we must remember that there are university educated millennials in the room who might not be acquainted with such antiquated meteorological concepts beyond #WetFallFromSky.) With those with water on the brain in mind we present a celebration of the time honored tradition of not having enough sense to get out of the rain in the movies. The following twenty five images feature films in which a proper deluge has been provided for dramatic effect. Your task is to identify all of the images and relay your findings to CSR headquarters in a timely fashion before the inevitable snowfall editions are presented. The first to show the true spirit of Image I.D. Entrepreneurship will receive the waterproof but highly flammable CSR Culture Shock Award. Good luck.

!) The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. (I have that on DVD)
2) The Year Of Living Dangerously. (Great film, and underrated.)
3) Audrey Rose. (Fairly sure about that but not 100%)
4) Dark Water. (The original Japanese version)
5) Nope. (Just won’t come!)
6) Stray Dog. (Kurosawa, now you’re talking)
7) Nope. (Looks like Burt Lancaster, but too dark for me.)
8) Withnail and I. (Seen that a few times.)
9) Sorcerer. (A remake of Wages of Fear)
10) Road To Perdition? (A guess, because it’s so dark)
11) V For Vendetta. (Natalie looking good with a shaved head)
12) The Last Wave. (Australian film I think, seen that one.)
13) Once Upon A Time In China.(Not my sort of film, but I have seen it)
14) All About My Mother. (Almodovar!)
15) Another Year. (Love Mike Leigh’s films)
16) In Cold Blood. (Love that film, and the book.)
17) Nope. (Too dark for me, and it looks like Michael Jackson! 🙂 )
18) The Illustrated Man. (I had to stare at that for AGES!)
19) Follow Me Quietly. (OK, I remembered a film like this starring Jeff Corey, with the big eyebrows. But I couldn’t remember the title. I looked up Jeff Corey films, and found it. So I’m not counting this in my score)
20) 9 1/2 Weeks. (Kim looking ‘perky’!)
21) Midnight In Paris. (Notice how nobody mentions Woody these days?)
22) Little Women. (I’m sure that’s Winona.)
23) Nope.
24) Bridges Of Madison County. (A sentimental guilty pleasure)
25) Turkish Delight. (A Verhoeven film, with a young Rutger Hauer. Turks Fruit in Dutch.)

An impressive 21 out of 25. I am including the researched guess as your mental reference point was not visible in the photo. Nicely done. Of the four remaining, I must remind you that we are a Michael Jackson Free zone here. Next time: scenes illuminated by Klieg lights.
I know you wouldn’t have M. Jackson on here. My mention of that looking like him was an indication of how hard it was for me to isolate any clue from the still. 🙂

I got exactly three of these. Ugh. I’m going to have to resign.
On the bright side, assuming these are correct I’ve only seen four of these. So it’s not my memory that’s going.
How did you get Bridges of Madison County out of that picture? I had a hunch it was from the scene in Prisoners where Jake Gyllenhaal is tailing Hugh Jackman but I guess not. Doesn’t seem like a lot to go on there.

Madison County? The age of the vehicles helps. But I have also seen the film quite a few times. When it came out in the cinema, I was married to my second wife, and we went to see it.Then I split with her a while later, and watched it again with my new girlfriend, on DVD. By 2001, I was seeing my current wife, and we watched the DVD because she had never seen it. Around two years ago, it was on TV when I had nothing else to do, so…
I don’t find these challenges easy, and sometimes my mental link to the answer is tenuous indeed, as in number 19. I spent a long time on this yesterday, because I have the time to spare. But I have been watching films for around 60 years, and many of those I have seen a lot more than once. There are times when I think I have seen far too many. My mind is packed full of film references that mean little or nothing to many people, but as I get older, they become harder to identify accurately.
I think of Chandler’s quizzes as a guide to the time when my brain fails. When I get 0/25, time to call it a day. 🙂 You don’t have to resign, just live long enough, and watch far too many films. Many of them not worth watching…

I had a look at this last night, and groaned. The rain makes it harder for me to see the stills properly. Damn these failing old eyes!
I decided to look in broad daylight, and use my brain while it is ‘morning fresh’. So, back later.
I love movies with rain. I only recognized half of them. The still shots pack a punch and say a lot! A favorite of mine is ‘The Piano’ with Holly Hunter’s Ada sitting in the muddly NZ forest floor after her husband just chopped off her finger. I like all of yours, though, Chandler.
